The Twit-tah

At least, that is how we refer to Twitter in our house. In my book, Twitter deserves not only its own article, “the”, but it should also be pronounced with a thick Boston accent.

Everyone seems to be talking either about or on Twitter these days. I came across a hilariously funny post on Scary Mommy in which she describes bad Twitter behavior that would cause her to stop following. I also learned from a guest post on the Tip Junkie how to take Twitter to the next level. In other words, how to Twhirl, Twuffer, and Twitpic. All good stuff.

Since I began my social media journey, I have tweeted mostly snippets of conversations (or rants) between myself and my son, my husband, or my friends. I am content with my little tweets out into the universe. Some of my friends and family may actually even be reading my 140 characters from time to time.

However, recently, I discovered my true passion on Twitter: CELEBRITIES.

Through Twitter, I am able to come one step closer to an A-List lifestyle and answer my long-standing question of “what the heck am I doing on Twitter?” The solution has always been right in front of me, I just didn’t know it.

If you were to ask me today, Fran, why are you on Twitter, my answer would be quick and succinct: I came to party. I came to get down.

A peak at the tweeps that I tweet:

Yoko Ono, William Shatner, Tony Robbins, Tina Fey, Soleil Moon Frye, Ryan Seacrest, Paula Abdul, Martha Stewart, Margaret Cho, Levar Burton, Lady Gaga, Kevin Smith, Heidi Montag, Dane Cook, Cesar Millan, Alyssa Milano, Sarah Jessica Parker, Perez Hilton, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Diddy, Jimmy Fallon, and Oprah.

I like to think that I roll with an eclectic bunch.

Each of my tweeps brings something different to my day. And, since I share such a close, personal bond with everyone, we are all on a first-name basis.

Margaret and Dane, both comedians, make me laugh. Cesar whispers to dogs. I don’t even have a dog and I am fascinated by him. (Plus, I want to be prepared should I ever adopt a dog.) Martha is my multi-media icon. Even prison couldn’t keep that woman down for long. Tony tweets inspirational little quips, like “the enemy is fear.” I have no idea what any of it means, but I like to repeat these sayings to my children in my best Mom voice.

When I found out Heidi was on Twitter, I immediately signed up as a follower. To date, she has only tweeted, “ :) “ and “I love Jesus.” Given how utterly profound she is, I am not sure that she needs to log into Twitter again, but if she ever does, you can bet your ass that I will be there.

Diddy, Busta, and Snoop are also in my posse. I like to read about their travels, although when I excitedly told my husband that Diddy and Jay-Z were in Las Vegas, he replied, do you really think those guys are on Twitter? You are probably reading something written by one of their assistants.

That cannot possibly be true. I feel the connection to all of my Tweeps in the very depths of my soul. I mean, why on earth would someone like Cesar follow me and tweet me directly with the words, "stay strong, stay assertive," if this wasn't a reality?

I think everything should be said with a thick Boston accent...it just makes life more fun.

As for following celebs, just not sure about that one yet....still trying to follow all the bloggy celebs out there and that gets confusing enough!!

Well, since you have my posts all catalogued in your brain, you know that I also did a post about celebrity Twitterereres. Some of the celebrities with their Tweets are just ridiculous.

I just read in US Weekly that Speidi were texting all during their wedding. Super classy, those two.

It is interesting to take a peek into their personalities based on what they choose to twitter about. I admit to twit-stalking a couple of them.

twifuhr sounds dirty.

I had to stop following Heidi because she made me want to cut her. Punky was kind of annoying too. I live to tweet with the New Kids.

You make me laugh! I love following your twitter. I am only following people I know or feel like I know, but maybe I should start searching around.

I also wanted to tell you that I am so glad that I have found yalls blog. Love it!

hehe!! But do you want to know the sad truth?! I don't even know what Twitter is.

Sevi said...

I think we're rolling in the same posse on Twitter. I'm following most of the same people as you.

Soleil Moon Frye!!! PUNKY BREWSTER!!!

Sadly, I just don't get twitter. Maybe the boston accent will help?! But it does fascinate me. Am I missing out?

ok... now i have to run along to twitter and find another new obsession, lol!

I'm totally laughing at what your hubby said!! I was so thrilled when I got an e-mail saying Britney Spears was now following me on Twitter and he goes, "it's probably just her assistant...and he's probably doing her updates as well". Way to bring a girl down, huh? I like to think that Britney is following me because she loves my blog and all the wonderful motherly advice I give...haaha!

What?? You're not following Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office)? Too bad. If you were, you'd know that he has moobs (aka man boobs). You really should reconsider.

Also, if you want to know how awesome John Mayer is, follow him. He'll tell you.

I have an account but haven't made a tweet! I barely have time to blog! lol! I am being tempted though....slowly but surely!

I don't "get' The Twitter...but then I didn't "get" facebook either when it first came out. Now I enjoy me some facebook time. But then I rarely if ever text so that's probably why twitter, oh wait excuse me The Twitter isn't for me.

Eve said...

Haha... I am on twitter, but haven't really figured out how to put it to any use. But now I'm inspired to keep trying.

Lisa@saltandlightstudio said...

Hmmmm...I admit there is an appeal to reading Tweets from famous folks, makes you feel just one step closer to being as super awesome as they are. But then again I think it might just remind me how lame "real" life really is and frankly I don't need any more excuses to feel overwhelmed and depressed.

The Walmart lady just called for a price check and I'm already coming unglued....see...my plate is FULL.

WAIT. I have NO idea how I wasn't following you on twitter!!! I totally missed that whole sidebar thing.

I'm fascinated with Twitter (and Cesar Milan) too.

I only follow Ellen though. I should start following more celebs though, it really might just make me feel way cooler.

Megan said...

Hahahaha I follow some of those celebrities too. So funny! Are you following Ashton Kutcher & MrsKutcher?

So funny!

Barbaloot said...

Levar Burton?! Brilliant. And I saw Diddy do some ridiculous plug about following him on Twitter when I was watching The Rise and Fall of Danity Kane (such a heart break) and I threw up in my mouth a little.

Fiauna said...

Seeing Heidi tweet "I love Jesus" might just get me to sign up for Twitter. But then again, maybe not ...

I bet Tina Fey's tweets are hilarious. Of course.. I am not on Twitter as I am still living in the stone ages. Case in point: I JUST got digital cable two days ago.

Vickie said...

He He!!!

My celebrities dudes are Ashton and Demi, Jamie Kennedy, Jenny Macarthy and Oprah. I thought I was following Maria Shriver until she followed me back.

I'm sorry Fran but I have to agree with your hubby! Well I think that Martha Stewart and believe me I love her! was talking the other day about twitter and sort of reading off what she was twitting about, it did not sound genuine, she was stumbling with some words and to be honest I did not believe she was tweeting at all, I got that feeling:)

Kathy B! said...

Clearly I am not fully utilizing twitter! I must add some celebs to my posse, stat :)

Sara @ Domestically Challenged said...

Twits are the best. Me? i always have something profound to say. Just now? I was going to tweet about how my son is hiding in his room, filling his diaper. Jay-Z can't be that!

Grand Pooba said...

Well as you know, I resently lossed my virginity to Twitter when you all started chit chat. I had no idea of these possibilities!

Frankly I'm a little dissapointed that you didn't point these celebs out to me personally when I first joined. I can't believe I've been missing out on all the celeb fabulousness! Especially on Ceasar, my dog is my child, I could have learned how to get him to do the laundary for me by now! Sigh.

Grand Pooba said...

Excuse me!

I mean ChiCK Chat!!!

Please forgive.

I too often wonder who's behind the famous names... I mean, anybody can create a profile and call themselves what they wish, right?

So... how does one really know? :-/

I am so glad I am not the only one hanging with the A-list peeps via Twitter! Heck, they are truly the only reason I signed up. And yes, it's really them. I refuse to believe anything different.

Dangit, how'd you get that pic of me in my little pink bikini. I'm sayin Twitah in the Boston accent now.

Kameron said...

Dane Cook tweets? That might just win me over to the black hole of technology that is Twitter. I call it a black hole, for I fear that if I joing I will get sucked in to the madness and never return to reality.

Julie said...

Punky Brewster?! Wonder what she tweets about...

I love twitter...I just can't explain what it is about it. I follow "local" celebrities (news anchors and politicians). Some that I follow McCainBlogette (John McCain's daughter), TylerFlorence, denisleary, SenJohnMcCain, clinton_kelly, stacylondon, Emeril...and that's just the beginning.

Shoot, there's Magazines, Newspapers, TV Shows, Stores, Designers....ok I need to step away from my computer before I spontaniously combust!

Carin said...

Why am I scared of Twitter????

If/when I overcome my fear I will look you up and you can be the celebrity I follow!!!!!

Fran, you are the best. I need to go through your followers list and connect with some of your celebs, so I can be cool, too.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I read Scary Mommy's twitter post, and boy did I laugh. Then I got a little worried... do I do those things? Probably.

Keeping up with celebs? I might see about that.

Yea, I still haven't jumped on the twit-tah wagon yet. I am a creature of habit.

Seriously? This post and reading these comments just made my night. I could hardly stop laughing at Vickie's comment about following Maria Shriver. Had to cross my legs so as not to let out any pee accidentally.

Thanks for being you, Fran. :)

They have to actually be on Twitter themselves... I saw it on Ellen, so it must be true...

That is a pretty eclectic group to follow. I'm still resisting Twitter. I don't think I want to know any more about celebrities anyway.

Tulip Row said...

John told me I already am on the computer too much so I can't Twitter, but one day I will get a job, and then I will switch from Blogging to Twitter! Haha ... can't wait, I think I will have to follow Heidi M. too!

haha, I love that! I have actually stayed away from Twitter and am now doing it just to make a point, haha, is that bad? :)

Really though, after reading how many celebrities were on it I think I would quickly become addicted and it is better if I stay away.

I'm not a Twitterer but I sure loved reading your post about it. You are too fun!

OMG! Celebrity Tweets is my newest obsession! Love Perez Hilton, couldn't understand half of Snoops, but I love it all!

Mrs. Jelly Belly said...

Hmmmm, celebrity following might make the whole thing a little more interesting...but I have to agree that I'm sure it's their publicist or something doing the actual twittering. But it would be fun to try to guess who is doing their own and who is doing it by proxy.

Scary Mommy said...

I used to follow a bunch of celebs but I dropped them all-- I find them much more interesting in gossip magazines than real life! But you're having me rethink it. Who knew Heidi was so profound, LOL?

Thanks for the shout-out! :)

Hmm, I wonder if Octomom is on twitter? I don't twitter, but you make me almost wish I did.

Great post as well. Thank you so much for stopping by my site and the kind words. Glad you enjoyed what I had to say. Yes, my husband is brilliant not only for the ridiculous picture he posted on Facebook for his profile.
Just added another post. You might enjoy it.

I'm with Liz. Anything said with a Boston accent just sounds better. We lived in MA for a few years and I really miss the old timers.

I absolutely loved this post. Especially the Heidi part.

I so glad to have discovered your blog. I'm adding you to my reader now. :)

I have long enjoyed "The Things They Say" but just recently realized they were Tweets!

My husband and I are still text holdouts, so I don't see the point in joining Twitter if we have to be logged into the computer to utilize it! I certainly enjoy reading other peoples Tweets though. I suppose that is bad ettiquette; oh well.

Did you see the Ellen episode where P. Diddy introduces her to this phenomenon?

ummm, I just felt the need to leave another comment. no reason. sigh. Just feelin' the miles between us.

Okay, yes I follow celebs on twitter but I don't talk about it because people(my family)roll their eyes if I do. It's a fun but guilty pleasure.

daaaaaaaaaamn, I was doing so well keeping away from the celebrity twitter(ers) but Paula Abdul on Twitter? So tempting, so delish, so...NO. I won't do it. Must...stay...away...

I'll say it again: love your wit.

I will just tweet vicariously through you...and come here to get caught up.

Love the Boston accent bit.

Hahaha, it's so fun to read the updates that celebs leave... and since I can check it wherever, it doesn't quite feel like a time waster as much a something that's keeping me from getting bored while I'm waiting.

I love celeb stalking on twitter. Somewhere in my unrealstic mind I think one of them might just think I'm cool enough to follow back. I love "the twit-tah".
