Forget Wenda, Where's Heffy?

I think most of us had a "lovey" when we were kids. I certainly was no different. In my case, I fell in love with a number of different bears right from the start.

My own children also have a lovey. He is a character from Disney's Winnie the Pooh adventures, and, if I must admit, a fun guy. In our house, he goes by the name Heffy and comes in the form of a big, squishy, purple elephant.

Heffy was a newborn gift to Giancarlo, but since Lucia turned about one, "Hef" has taken on an entirely new identity and importance. He is everywhere I go, and when I can't find him, I am instructed to go looking.

Lucky for me, Heffy has a few consistent hang-outs...

I'll find him in my bed or Giancarlo's.

He could be hanging out with his posse, aka "Puppy" and "Baby."

He joins us for dinner,

or dines alone, when the feeling strikes.

He's even got himself some wheels.

The truth is, wherever we go, Heffy is never far behind.

You know, I actually don't remember having a Heffy. Apparently, I have blocked my childhood out. Can't be a good sign.

I just had a lowly blankie that I once mistakenly sewed to myself...

My oldest, Mae has "Cookie" her baby she got when she was just a newborn ...now she's 12...Cookie still goes with us.

Hannah Grace has "Fuzzy" her soft baby blanket... She loves that blankie

Thanks for showing. I love Heffy, and I'm sure if he could talk he'd have much to share about his adventures with your family!

We have the same thing going on over here. H has her Build A Bear Bunny Sissy and O has her Build A Bear Bear Zoe. They are with them at all times--except at school.

BTW--love your baby picture!! So cute!!

Very cute! We have a Winnie The Pooh "lovey" that we call poobie.

I don't think I ever had a lovey. My son had a little puppy that he loved and had to take everywhere, but he has since grown out of that. So cute of your kids!

I had imaginary cats. They went everyhere with me.

Awww! That is so cute! I love it when kids get attached to objects. Unless they get lost. Then I hate them.

Loved Heffy with the pacifier! He looks like one of the soft stuffed animals...Excellent to snuggle with!

My blankie and my thumb were my "vices" when I was little and my girls switch it up on me all the time. One day it is their doll another day it is their webkin. I think they like to keep me on my toes.

PS. Whenever I start reading your blog, I immediately know when you write the post (without even looking). I think our relationship is getting very serious. :)

My mind is always in the gutter... why can't I enjoy the lovey name Heffy without thinking of the Hef? My apologies to you and G.

Anyhoo... love the post, love Heffy, going now to wash my brains out with soap.

At first I thought you named him Heffy after Hugh...but then I figured maybe it was a heffalump thing? I hope so.:)

That last picture had me cracking up! We have a couple of very special stuffed friends at our house, too. My 8 year old son was a little disappointed in me when I referred to Doug the Dog as not real yesterday. Oops!

It's been so long since I've seen a post from you! Or maybe it just seems that way...I was going through Francesca withdrawl.

We have lots of things that Princess gets attached to. Right now it's stuffed puppies with names like Taste, Mauser, and Bella. We counted last night and between Princess and Dexy, we have 15 stuffed dogs or puppies.

Still easier than the real thing.

Aww, the wuvvie! I had a bear, a lot like the one Radar had in MASH, and a puppy blanket that was made for my baby sister but confiscated by me.

I loved this post! That elephant is adorable!! I love the picture of Heffy with Giancarlo at the table...too cute!

We don't have a "Heffy" in our house...just blankies. And even those are only for bedtime. I swear my childhood was messed up, I don't remember if I had a special security thing or not! LOL Oh well, I hope my children remember their favorite items someday.

Thanks for all your lovely comments on my blog! "auntie internet Fran" cracked me up! Wish you weren't thousands of miles away, we would totally be best buds!

I SOOOOOO know what you mean! Reagan has a pink puppy that she is NEVER without. I even have two spares in case something tragic should ever happen to the original or the first back up. That is how much of a necessity this particular lovey is. My husband and I laugh that she is going to have to stuff the dang thing into her garter under her wedding dress on the day she gets married!

I love this. We take Baby Ashley with us when we go places. Too funny. Love the last shot.

That is SO cute!! They'll have such happy memories of Heffy when they're older!

Cole has a teddy bear that he received from the hospital staff where he had his hernia surgery. He carries it everywhere and treats it like a real baby. In fact, today he wanted to take it to school with him but the teacher asked that he stop doing that (b/c you know, then all the kids want to start bringing theirs from home too...ugh) and he had to leave his bear at home and the child was devastated. Completely devastated.

I have to take the little twins to Target this morning to get some things and I assured Cole that we'd bring Teddy with us and make sure he was well taken care of. I was informed that Teddy will only drink cold apple juice and I need to ask him every hour if he's hungry.

Man, I wish I was that teddy bear...I'd be so well taken care of!!

We were poor, or so we were led to believe, I had nothing. Hubby still has his Boo Bunny or something in a box in the garage. TOF has a Thumper, a Cubs taggie blanket we affectionately call "your rag" and Grisgrum, his puppy. Hey whatever it takes to get 2.5 hours to myself after lunch. We have Heffy, but they never bonded.

Your baby pic is adorable! As is Heffy : )
Max has Moby the Monkey, and he is lost if he isn't able to bite his face at least once a day. This has resulted in quite a few washings! Good thing I bought a back-up, huh?!

Thanks for the comment on our blog : )

Heffalumps and WOOSALS!

Is it sad I saw the movie with Heffy's character in it? In college? With Ben? For V-day?

I'm such a five year old.

I had Littlefoot, from Land Before Time. He went EVERYWHERE with me and I slept with him every night. You would never think I would like dinosaurs, but I did.

And PLEASE send me a copy of your marketing genuis letter. Lord knows I need help, even though I've got a PR degree and shouldn't...

We have a small pink elephant named Pink E. Alyse loves him. However, she is mostly attached to her Taggie. One time she took it to church with her, but it didn't make it home. I am not sure who cried more - me or her! I had to go online and order one with rushed delivery!

Does Heffy want to come meet Oggie and Baby? They have MANY Similiar pics!
Last week, Elijah set up a "studio" in his room to take "professional" shots of Oggie.
and right now?
Ogs is buckled into the backseat of my car, so he stays safe while Elijah is at school. Ahh, the stories us mommies could tell of frantically searching the world for those guys when they go missing.
P.S. Could Giancarlo BE any cuter!?

How cute! I never had a "lovey" and neither have my kids. My husband on the other hand? His "lovey" was his mom's hair. They had to buy him a doll with long hair to comfort him when his mom wasn't around.

I never really had a lovey, and my daughter only had a thing for her pacifiers (which have been MIA for about a month now! Hooray!). My son is showing no signs of a lovey either. Are we all weird?

going with "hilarious" heffy. so cute! my girlies for some reason, all have blankets...sofie just chooses her fingers, so she's got them, but the others, all have blankies!

In this house it's Winnie the Pooh. Pooh has been with us for 14 years and he's all ragedy but we can't get rid of him. It's amzaing how all 3 of my kids loved that same bear. I'm not allowed to wash it cause it might fall apart. Pooh is our forever baby.

Esther said...

I still have the Pooh Bear I got when I was 3. He's tattered, but he's been everywhere--in the hospital, on vacations, in cribs. Everywhere.
My 3 all have night-nights--flannel blankets that I swaddled them in. If we lost those, I don't know what we'd do!

Julie said...

Isn't it amazing how the world has to come to a complete stop if the lovely gets lost??

Kameron said...

I never had an animal, but my mom had to pry my tattered blanky out of my 5 year old hands to get rid of it. In fact, she kept cutting it in half until it was the size of a washcloth ann then it was just gone. My son is a blanky boy too which cracks me up. I wonder if these things are genetic!

That's cute!! Jake actually does not have a specific lovey. It's strange. When I was little, my Gloworm was my lovey.

I don't remember my lovey. But I remember my kid's loveys. A year and a half ago, my youngest one lost her lovey, she called it Babydoll, at Meijer. Of course it never showed up in lost and found. We had to buy another one. We had to get it shipped next day and it was 50 bucks! But the look on her face when Babydoll came back was priceless. Just awesome.

My kids never had one particular lovey. They take very good care of their toys though (too good - their rooms are getting full!), esp. their favorite ones. As they've gotten older, my job has become tougher. Not only do I need to know the names and current whereabouts of all the toys, lately, I've been required to tell them where and when (so we can celebrate birthdays) and from who we received each and every toy... and no making stuff up either, they catch me!

ScoMan said...

I had a little blue bear which I called my "baby sister". I always wanted a baby sister, but I never got one.

One day at the doctors the doctor asked me something and I told him all about my baby sister, only ever referring to it as my baby sister.

The doctor shot mum a quizzical look as he had been the family doctor for years and knew nothing about a little girl, and mum had to explain the whole thing to him.
