A Career Change

The new year is definitely in full swing and, for me, it brings with it the daunting reality that I may be in need of a job soon. My "job" as a student is coming to an end in March. After that, I will again be faced with the "what are you going to do now?" question. I am not sure that saying I am simply "keeping my options open" will work too well anymore. And, as much as I would love to be a SAHM, it just might not be my reality.

However, as I mentioned last week, I am committed to my resolution to be creative and think outside the box. Subsequently, I put my thinking cap on over the weekend and came up with three career paths that I think I am well qualified for and would provide me with plenty of job satisfaction.

1. A Meteorologist

I have been a fan of the weather for a long, long time. You could probably even categorize me as a weather geek. Want to know the forecast for the next 7-10 days? Just ask me. In addition to checking our blog and e-mail on a daily basis, I also check weather.com.

I even have a favorite weather guy. (Don't you?) His name is Steve Paulson and he appears, much to my daily delight, on KTVU, or Channel 2 in the Bay Area.

2. The Next Food Network Star

I have watched season after season of this show and almost died at the mediocrity that the judges have selected as "winners." I mean, Guy Fieri, really? That guy annoys me beyond belief.

I think I would make a much better contestant and subsequent host for The Food Network. I even checked out the application requirements for the upcoming season of The Next Food Network Star, which include cooking know-how, personality that pops, and teaching skills. Yep, I think I have that covered.

More importantly, I have an IDEA. My cooking show would be centered primarily on everyday life and celebrations...wait for it...for parents. Here is the premise: a 30 minute segment focused on food/menus for adults and children not only for major holidays, such as Thanksgiving, but also for less appreciated days, like rainy days when you can't go outside, graduations, and the day Mom is assigned to bring treats.

3. A back-up dancer for Britney, Beyonce, and/or Janet

Honestly, I am not picky. I'll dance for any of my favorite ladies. I don't need to be in the limelight either. Just the behind the star girl, busting her hip hop moves all over the stage.

If this option is a bit difficult for you to envision, I decided to go the extra mile and provide a visual...

See? There I am. It could so work. I tell Geoff all the time that he would just need to hire help when I go on tour.

Great ideas. This reminds me of when George Costanza was running possibilities for jobs by Jerry Seinfeld after he got fired. Classic.

Seinfeld applies to everything in life.

Way to go, thinking outside the box like that! I would love to see you doing any of these things. We look forward to an update :)

I'm definitely voting for the back up dancer. Go you!

I would say you should most definately go for a back up dancer. Great job thinking outside the box!

Wow! So many talents, so little time, eh?

I think I'd like to be a movie critic. There's free popcorn involved, right?

Your face on the dancer was more than I could ask for to make my day! AND BTW... I am also a weather Geek! On my homepage I had the weather set up for Sacramento, NY & San Diego, so everyday I knew the forecast for all three....then it disappeared and I can not figure out how to get it back... I was so sad! John told me just to check the website, but it is not as good as all three at once right there!

I heart you F~. I too am job searching and you, my friend have just raised the bar. Back up dancer?? Why didn't I think of that?
Dang, when I'm in my car I AM Britney. Just sayin. What are you going to school for?

Blessings,
Carolynn

I cannot help but notice that all of these put you on TV. Hooray for us! I would definitely watch you in any capacity.

Oh, I needed a hearty, from-the-gut laugh today, thank you very much.

Hey,I would totally watch a food show like that. And we, I mean you, can incorporate celebrities cooking with their kids, too, so the ratings would soar and we, I mean you, would be famous and get on the Today Show and they would love us, I mean you, more than Matt Lauer, and then we, I mean you, would take over the "Where in the World is Lori and Francesca?" I mean "Francesca..."

Thanks for commenting on my blog, it's nice to cyber meet you! So, anyway, you could conceivably COMBINE your aspirations and become a cooking, dancing, meterologist. Now that would be AWESOME!!

Leather pants really do suit you, Fran! I think this somehow needs to be incorporated into your preschool pick-up and grocery shopping outfits. (BTW If I looked like that in leather pants you'd have to pry me out of them!)

Love the food network show idea: I'd be Tivo-ing that one like crazy!

Well done, friend. This MBA is going to be put to good use no matter what.

Francesca-

Have you ever seen that crazy meterologist Mark on YouTube? He makes all sort of funny jokes and things that are totally inappropriate...let me know and I'll find it for you!

You look great dancing for Brit, but I vote for you to be the food network person. I want to see a show where you have a parents planning a birthday party, kind of like cake wars, but kid birthday party wars. I could get into it!

That guy, Guy, bugs me to! I always ask what does he got that I don't? I LOVED that pic you made, all in the tight leather, I think I am going to do that with a pic of myself! Do you even read comments this far down? Hee hee

Excellent choices really. I think the backup dancer is really your forte. Me - I'm still bucking for a job in the new administration. Something like "Official Pres Blogger".

Helene said...

Wow, how will you ever choose? They all look like cool jobs!! Esp the back-up dancing!!! How awesome would that be??!!

I'm also constantly checking the weather. I don't know why. I'm obsessed with it. I watch the news almost every morning just to hear the weather report. Then I'm constantly checking the weekly forecast on the computer. I don't know what it's like in SF today but here in Stockton, it feels like spring!!! So nice for a change!

I LOVE IT! I'm certain you're over qualified for all these jobs.

You've been tagged for a photo-tag. See Peach Out of Water for details.

Oh you could so do way better than Guy. I would actually watch the program again! ;) Oh, and I so liked Jessica's idea. Yeah, while you are busting some moves on the Food Network while showing us some great food ideas for moms with kids, you can be telling us what the weather is. That way we would get the best of all three worlds. Way to think out of the box. What ambition you have!!! You go Francesca. Love it. You made my day. :)

Yes, please, please, please do go on the Food Network Challenge! In any case, I'll root for you no matter what you end up doing!

Francesca,

I am just loving following you guys blog! It is so great! I hope that with at much as you stop by ours you will decide to follow us as well.

As for all our family blog pages and the main Fort Thompson page...
yes your right, I do it all. I actually tried to get me wife to do some entries, but she has no desire to do so. Besides anytime something needs to be written (like a Christmad letter) I do it. She agrees that I am just better with words. I guess Im suppose to take that as a compliment.

Anyway, there has been a strong demand for the story of how God brought Carey and I together via the internet. I have been very tentative in the past about sharing that because it is very personal, but have decided to do so. Call it peer pressure or just a desire to go ahead and share something amazing that God did in our lives, its coming so stay tuned.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

I actually LOVE your 30 min. food show idea on the everyday celebrations ... most food network stuff is just too tiring for me to watch (I'm no Martha Stewart!), but I would watch a show like the one you came up with!
