What's the Dealio?

I fell off the wagon today. For the past couple of months, I've been very good about refraining from shopping. Our current economic crisis means shoring up the emergency fund and exercising major restraint even when the sales are so tempting. Well, this week, I caved. I caved BIG.

I really do have an excuse, though. I am starting a new job next Monday and, this week, I felt like I needed to do some back to school shopping. Perfectly justifiably, right? (Like Kacey, I can justify any purchase.) The good news is that I rarely buy anything unless it's on sale. Somhow, the price of an item can dictate how cute it is. You know, a cute top suddenly becomes a whole lot cuter with an additional 30% off.

Alas, here are some places that have excellent sales going on. Go ahead and shop; you never have to justify your purchases to me.

1. Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy: 30% off through Sunday.

2. JCrew.com: 20% off everything through today, Friday, March 13th. Promotion code: Secret.

3. Crazy 8: 20% off everything + free shipping through March 22, 2009. Promotion Code: SAVE20.

4. Tea Collection
Tea Collection Sample Sale: March 21, 2009 from 9am - 1pm.
1 Arkansas Street (@ 16th), Suite B, San Francisco, CA
COST: $10 admission fee to be donated to The Global Fund for Children! Bring your own bag and get $5 off.

We love Tea Collection clothes and if you do too, you could win a $200 gift certificate to use at teacollection.com by submitting your kiddies' pictures by the last day of each month on Facebook. Winners are chosen monthly.

With so many sales, how could I possibly cover them all? I can't. Instead, I check out Bradsdeals, a great site that I found recently that does a wonderful job of listing all the sales. I love that he has the printable Michaels 40% off coupon or Joanne's coupon on his site. No need to dig through the newspapers when you can print directly from this website. So useful for when you are suddenly feeling crafty!

If you have any deals to share, please do!! I love to hear about other sales out there.

Happy Savings, everyone!

My sister called yesterday and said she was emailing me a fantastic coupon to use on the already fantastic prices at Gap,Old Navy, etc, and I had to tell her not to bother. I don't need the temptation!

Oh my gosh...thanks for the heads up!!!!!!!!! Those are all my favorite stores!!!

It can work backwards too. If I think something is cute, but it turns out to be expensive, all of a sudden it's not that cute.

I totally know what you mean!! Love the info on the sales, thanks!! It's always nice to keep some of our money instead of giving it away, right?! :o)

I can usually pass up stuff for myself. But when I see cute little girl clothes...it's like an addiction. ;)

Another excuse:

You know you're actually HELPING the economy by shopping! I think you need to help out the economy more often!

Thanks for the info! I love any excuse to shop!

Sales also dictate need vs. desire. We performed plastic surgery and now I don't have a credit card. Since I have no money either I'm at home in old clothes.

Thanks for sharing the site for the coupons for Michaels and joanns. I could always use those coupons:)

Good luck next week.

I was sooo good today! I found a skirt at Kohls that I wanted. Instead, I went to JoAnn's and bought everything I need to make two skirts for about $20 less than the cost of one. Now, we'll just see if it turns out HALF as cute as the one in the store... probably not, but ya never know :)

That Old Navy/Gap/Banana coupon pushed me over the edge also. I didn't have as good of an excuse as you though; the coupon in itself was an excuse! Glad I found your blog. I'm missing Cali sooooo much during this everlasting cold Maryland winter:)

I like the idea of just going to one site and seeing all the sales! Thanks for sharing that!

Times are tough but I think if we all spend just a little here and there that will have a positive impact on the whole economic cycle. So don't feel bad, you did a good thing :)

Yeah I just payed $39 for a banana republic clutch black purse that was originally $98 dlls I felt so victorious when i bought it!

If there was no economic recession, I'd go shopping. Unfortunately, the times are not in my favor.

Anonymous said...

That is a great justification. Mine is usually that I am buying quality pieces to add to my work wardrobe which is very important.

oh - I may have to pop over to old navy and gap today!!

A few nights ago my daughter and I were talking on the phone and she was sharing with me a "really cool" shirt she wanted. I checked it out and all of a sudden I ordered the shirt! She wasn't asking me to buy it, just wanted me to see it. I must have had one of those moments when I HAD to purchase something! :)

I've been very good lately, but I have been known to buy things since it was on "Sale" who cares if it is something I don't need or may never use ... LOL

Yeah new job!! So what kind of fun job are you going to be doing? Congrats and good luck!

Thanks for stopping by again, you rock!

Ohhhhh, and internet shopping is 10 times more tempting than in person shopping somehow!

Sarah J. said...

OH my goodness. I have been trying to keep my eyes shut to all sales because I am such a sucker! I've been trying to be good lately too. I did the same thing as you though, went on a shopping spree for my girls! I think there's something about spring that makes you want a brand new wardrobe.

I love hearing the word SALE thanks for the heads up...
