Through a Child's Eyes

The way in which my son sees and interprets the world around him is a continual source of entertainment, amazement, and at times, even a bit of frustration for me. There are moments when he asks for something and I am proudly the only one in the room that can deliver. However, there are also instances when I do not have even the slightest clue what he is talking about.

Let's play a little game today. How many of the following items can you correctly identify? If you get at least one right, then you are doing much better than me....

Answer: The sandwich yogart. I learned this lesson while standing in the dairy section of the grocery store. Giancarlo kept repeating, "Mama, it's right there. The sandwich yogart." Finally, tired of how long I was taking, he decided that he would simply "showed me" himself.

Answer: Hearts. If you chose the logical "lily pad" answer, then you should probably re-think your game strategy at this point.

Answer: The Easter Bunny.

This is undoutedly my fault. In order to put our Christmas decorations away without my son mourning the loss of both our tree and Santa Claus, I told him that we could now start looking forward to the Easter Bunny. What I did not anticipate was how strongly Giancarlo would take ahold of this idea. We now see the Easter Bunny wherever we go. Not only is he is on the label of the Nestle Nesquik container at the grocery store, but, according to Giancarlo, the Bunnyman also called our house the other day and left a message on the answering machine.

When folding the laundry, Giancarlo turned to me and asked what this is for. Honestly, I stared at him for a few minutes and then said that it is Mama's shirt. This was not the answer he was looking for. Instead, Giancarlo informed me that this is what I use to cover my "belly butt."

What a hoot! And I'm not sure but I don't think "belly butt" is meant to be a flattering term! :)

Good luck with the bunnyman! I almost never telling my kiddos what's coming up next until we're practically there... otherwise it goes like this, "now mom? When mom? Today? Now? When? Pleeeeeeeease Mom."

I LOVE 3BBC's new face lift; really classy my friend!

I'm going to go buy some sandwich yogurt now. Have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings, Carolynn

Butt Belly..."cracking" up over here. Too hysterical.

Love the header!!!

When I read "belly butt," I was immediately reminded of my tummy, oh, about 6 months after the twins were born. Without getting too graphic, I'll just say that my post-twin belly really did resemble a rear end.

So, G, your mother must have abs that still resemble abs, otherwise, she may have cried at "belly butt!"

That is freaking hilarious! My kids are constantly asking what those "things" are and what is the name of the thing that holds them? Love the easter bunny. How cute.

Dixon?? We used to go the Dixon May Fair! My sister won the dance contest there one year when we were very young. I have the best memories of my growing up years in Winters, it was an awesome place to be a kid.

Oh I totally failed the test miserably!! Isn't it funny the names kids give things that we would never even dream of?? This was such an adorable post, esp the part about the bra!!

I actually keep my camera and my Flip video camera on the kitchen counter so I always know where it is and I grab it in a second's notice. And what's really bad is that the kids have started grabbing for it when something funny happens and they say "take a picture/video for your log on the computer"! They keep insisting it's a "log", not a "blog" b/c apparently "blog" is a wierd word to them.

Thanks for adding yourself to my follow list. I'm gonna add myself to yours too and I'm adding you to my blog roll on my sidebar!

Your son and I would so be BFFs...
I see the Easter Bunny everywhere too!!!

My kids somehow confused a bra with my actual breasts - which is difficult to explain in public: "Mom, are you getting new breasts today?" "Mom, do you have your breasts on right now?"

I wish they had had such cute misunderstandings as 'hearts' and 'sandwich yogurt.'

Sigh.

(Hey, thanks for following! Love you guys too :D)

Am I at the right house? Something around here looks different.

Maybe Francesca forgot to pay the mortgage. She was looking at a new purse last week.

Any who. I will figure it out later. I left my calling card on your sidebar.

I am torn between the belly butt and the easter bunny - both classic! My baby calls boobs "beans" - I wonder what he would call my bra???

love the new header too - I grew up near the city - miss it!

That is funny. Sounds like I'm going to have a hard time communicating with my kids when I have them. I do remember when I was babysitting, I used to say "Show me what you're asking for" a lot!

I like the new changes, I know about these kid things, when it rains Anthony asks me if I have the "galella." His word for umbrella.

Hilarious post! I remember my son hugging me and asking what that strap thing on my back was- I so did not want to have that conversation right then :) And my daughter has been crying that she wants to sing the pepe' song (WHAT???) I kept singing songs, but nothing was right. Then one day I sang 'Jesus wants me for a sunbeam' and she screams pepe'song!!
Go figure...

Hmmmm ... my son just thinks all my bras are gross ... just becuase he is a teenage boy seeing something I wear under my clothes. His comments usually are something like, "Gawd, I'm [insert eating, watching TV, gaming here] I don't wnat to have to see THAT!" Usually it's just a pile of laundry fresh from the dryer that just happens to have half a bra cup hanging out.
Ahhh just wait as the teenage years unfold...

Hmmm... I think I have that same lack of translation going on at my house. Who decided to pop into my kiddo's brain and rewrite his vocabulary? I try soo hard to make sure he has all the right words and descriptions only to hear it muttered back to me as if he were speaking pig latin. Makes me wonder if wearing my bra on his head while we're folding laundry is warping him in some small way. :) Good stuff, girl!

Thanks for stopping by our blog. We seriously need to consider giving "huggie" award boy a style makeover. He's a bit to serial killer chic for my taste, too. :)

Glad you added my blog to your read list but I have to admit, I'm a dork, I don't quite know what that means! Sounds good tho! HAHA!!

PS...the word that I am to type in my word verification box is whora...what the heck is that?

Belly Butt?! I love it!! Kids are so fun :)
My youngest came in one day as I was getting out of the shower. She looked at me and started to laugh. I asked her what was so funny (which I NOW know was a mistake) and she responded, "Your body is all jiggly like jelly." Sigh. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I vowed never to eat again ;)
