Summer Beats

My sister Mindy is determined to have me committed to a mental hospital. She bought Emi her first Raffi CD for Christmas, as well as another horrid CD with toddlers singing. Naturally, Raffi is Emi's favorite and she insists we listen to him every time we get in the car. Agh!

As much as I used to love Raffi, he has increasingly gotten on my nerves. I am now at the point that I CANNOT stand to hear his voice. If I have to listen to Baby Beluga one more time, it might be the end of me. Tyler thinks I’m being dramatic. Whatever.

With summer arriving and Emi and I spending increasingly more time in the car, I’ve decided to draw the line and find some music we can both enjoy. Yesterday, I created a "sanity" playlist and, if I’m being honest, it rocks! Sharing is caring friends, so if you’d like to check it out, click below.

You can also find the mix at itunes under threebaybchicks summer 2009.

Rock on friends!

My mother-in-law was kind enough to give my boys TWO hour-long CDs of (generic, cheaply produced, adults-posing-as-kids-singing) children's gospel music. ... Which we now must listen to on every. Single. Car ride.

I feel your pain - thanks for the tolerable suggestions. :)

Thanks for caring, I mean sharing! You just took the work out of my morning, and evening, drive to/fr daycare. You rock, you really do.

I'm planning on making my kids listen to Nine Inch Nails and Tool.

Pretty kid friendly I think.

I know what you mean, I love Raffi but have not had to listen to it that much. Mine was Barney, I loved the purple dino and so did my first born. I hated it when people Barney
Bashed. Problem was when she was leaving Barney behind my second child was picking it up. By the end I wanted to do my own Barney bashing.

I have to agree with Jillene...that has to be the world's worst music. I have "lost" most of them!

I love your list! We really like Frances England, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Barenaked Ladies kids music, at our house too!

We are on to the Radio Disney listening phase of our lives. I know all of the words to every Miley, Jonas Brothers, Demi... song now! Yay!

Kids Bop over here...
I haven't been annoyed to death to think it's terrible yet. YET!

Finally, finally, Kylie told me the CD's she insisted on listening to were "for babies", yay! Now both my kids like Lady Ga Ga, don't judge!

maybe you should 'loose' those cd's at a local goodwill?
and maybe you should rig mindy's cd player in her car so that is what she gets to listen to.
your mix is awesome - jasper gave it his dance bounce thumbs up - & derek is a fan of the jazz album.

Great recommendations! Parenting is surely about compromise. There is NO REASON to be held hostage in your car while bad kids' music sucks the joy out of your soul -- not when you have a great playlist like this!!

I made the mistake of clicking on the Baby Beluga link and listening to it. If I ever see Raffi in person, I just might give him a knuckle sammich.

Good luck!

Play it slowly in reverse speed and you'll see the appeal. ;)

Oh, my kids don't get to listen to their music around me. I'm mean that way. If we're driving in the car we listen to my music. I trained them young.

Of course they do get to hear their music when they get to watch TV. Like my daughter is in love with Yo Gabba Gabba and I constantly have this song, "Don't bite...don't bite your friends.." in my head.

When McDonald's started giving out Kids Bop cds as Happy Meal toys I about lost it. Seriously? I go there for relief of cooking, dishes and being the human jungle gym and you offer me Kids Bop in return? Nice. Real Nice, Ronald.

Blessings,

Unfortunately, no book deals. :) I'm just printing them on Lulu.

I couldn't deal with those CDs. Even when I was a kid I hated them!

Jack is stuck on the Singing Time CDs, but I can't blame him, he can "sing(sign)" along

Oh man, Raffi....yeah, that takes me back to my preschool teaching days. I can still hear "I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas" in my head if I dare to think about it.

My kids are hooked on Hannah Montana right now, who isn't much better but still slightly annoying. And I know it's bad when I'm singing the songs along with them without even realizing it!

No more little ones to listen but tomorrow is my youngest' 21st birthday so maybe he will like them, you think.

Oh girl, I put my foot down on the music jacking early on... if we both can't listen to it, then we don't listen to it, period. Or else mommy will drive the car over a cliff. And we don't want that, do we? So let's run over the Wiggles CD and pop in some Stevie Wonder, shall we?!

Comments off?! Common Fran, you know I just LIVE for commenting on every single one of your posts! Whether it's for Chit Chat or pizza ovens!

But, just for you I will go visit those mothers of multiples. What a friggin fun topic! Can't imagine what it's like to be a mom let alone a mom to multiples! Sheesh!

Ok, I forgive you, you're just tryin to spread the love to those moms, I understand.

Sort of.

I used to play that for the little boy I babysat for when I was in 7th grade. I feel old now! Very old!

You may really enjoy these kids artists (if you are not already familiar with them): It's a big World by Renee & Jeremy, Family Tree by Frances England, and You are my Sunshine by Elizabeth Mitchell. Both my daughter and I love these albums!
