It's sad, but true, friends. As my husband and I sat watching last night's episode of So You Think You Can Dance, I turned to him and again questioned whether or not Mary Murphy has a drinking problem.During the summer, when TV programming seems to fail miserably and all of the quality shows, like my beloved Ghost Whisperer, have closed up shop for the season, I was excited to see So You Think You Can Dance step onto the scene a few summers ago.
I must admit, though, that Mary's "Hot Tamale Train" approach to judging takes reality TV to an all new level and drives me a bit crazy. In an interview with TV Guide, Mary stated that her sheer "nonstop enthusiasm" is a source of pride for her. To her, enthusiasm is a dying art; an approach to life that few adults embrace. "I don't care what those [critical] people think because [the dancers] deserve more. It's a human connection."But is she really "high on life"? My belief is that she just plain had too much to drink before filming.
I think Joel McHale would agree with me...

I just started watching SYTYCD this season. I love the dancing but man, I can't take all the screaming. And Mary's face doesn't move at all. Every time my husband walks in the room and hears Mary talk/scream, he turns around and walks out. He jokes, "Can you please watch this show when I'm not home?"
Of course everytime I hear her scream, I think of that clip from The Soup. And then having sex with Joel. My life is awesome.
She is a large part of the reason I fast forward the judges. But I LOVE the dancing:)
SHe can drink to her hearts content as long as she fixes whatever the heck she's done to her face!!! Ack!! Her smile's all weird and there's no smile lines around the edges...
I say, have another drink and lay off the Botox. But I don't really have an opinion... ; )
My husband and I also love watching this show! (Max too!) I was a little disappointed when they made her a permanent judge in season 2, it's just too much Mary. We decided this season to mute during her commentary; we're ready for our ride on the Hot Tamale Train to be over.
i just started watching the show this season, but i can't watch it live, because of her. i can only watch it on the DVR, so i can fast forward through the comments/craziness.
Just her smile freaks me out.
I don't know what her problem is, but she drives me crazy! Enthusiasm is a great thing, but she takes it w-a-a-a-y too far and obviously has no respect for the fragile eardrums of the people sitting next to her!
Mary Murphy reminds me of one of my aunts:

That video was way too funny. I thought I was the only one that thought she was a bit off. I mean I understand enthusiasm. I am quite enthusiastic and I do agree that most adults don't have it anymore. However, what are you on before you get on this show. Enthusiasm and annoyance are too completely different thing.
TOTALLY 100% agree.... every night SYTYCD comes on, hubby and i are all "wonder how mary will act tonight!"... happy friday!

Me and my husband question this every time we watch the show. So You Think You Can Dance has quickly become one of our favorites but Mary is waaaaay out there! Some nights, I think she must be a little drunk.
I pretty much agree with most things Joel says. He's my Dalai Lama.
I only follow SYTYCD by following The Soup. I am very concerned about her forehead. though. When your trademark is whack-a-doodle level enthusiasm, lay off the botox!

I love this show - I think most of the time Nigel bugs me more than Mary - maybe they should just stick to the guest judges!
OMG, everytime my husband hears her screaming, he totally loses it!! He can't stand her!! I do like her attitude and enthusiasm but she should tone it down a little.
With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if next week we read in the tabloids that she and Paula Abdul have been spotted somewhere together "sparking it up".

I love Ghost Whisper too but for summertime check out: The Closer, Army Wives and Burn Notice oh almost forgot True Blood all good!
I did hear there is a drinking Game, for SYTYCD, drink everytime Mary says WOOOOO! But yeah, don't try this at home kiddies, you'll get schnookered real quick like. I assume. Not that I know. Seriously. Wait, I've said too much.

I loved her the first couple of seasons... but lately she seems like she has gone over the edge! Her face is killing me, and yeah... she seems to be a bit drunk most of the time!

Not yet, today, for this Mary. I saw Julia Child a few times as a child & I was sure she was drunk, in fact, pointing it out to my Mother. Not having a tv, I've never even SEEN that face before. The lady is a nut-job. If she's not heavily marinated then at the very least she should consider psychiatric med. How is enthusiasm and art form? I love Joel McHale and The Soup. I've already alerted my husband, if Joel comes knocking at my door one day, all bets are off. ;)

My hubs refuses to watch the show with me just because of Mary! I have to sit and watch the show with my kleenex ready because she makes my ears bleed.
