Beyond Bulk Buying

I just came back from traveling with the family down to Southern California to visit friends and relatives and though we prefer “staycations,” it was a good way to test the waters before planning longer, more adventurous trips with an active toddler.

I’m a horrible procrastinator and despite knowing of the trip months in advance, I still planned it last minute and thought surely I’d probably have to pay through the nose for it. Not true. The Deal Gods must be looking down on me...I got amazing deals on Southwest airfare despite buying my tickets only a week in advance (HINT: always check airfare first; don’t assume it’s cost prohibitive) and even more drool worthy car rental deal of $14 per day for a mid-size from Costco. Yep, I said, Costco. Seriously, it cost more for us to park the car at the hotel than to drive it around.

Even as a single person, I shopped at Costco and some of my friends would laugh because it seemed excessive but it’s been so ingrained in me to try to get the best value out of anything. So aside from buying paper towels, wipes, and roasted chicken, and now, booking some of my travel plans from the website, I have also added hardware to my list. During my kitchen remodel, I bought a name brand garbage disposal, German engineered kitchen faucet, and other hardware accessories at extremely reasonable prices. Now, in the midst of our bathroom remodel, I turn to Costco once again for my bathroom vanity which was delivered this morning.

I get overwhelmed by too many options and after going to three showrooms, I just needed my choices narrowed down for me. Plus, if I don't like what I order from Costco.com, they have an amazing return policy. Not that I would ever do this, but I saw a person return a BBQ, 3 years after they’ve bought it. Costco still took it back. Got to love a company with that generous of a policy.

Before making any new purchases, I am now in the habit of looking at what’s available at Costco.com first. Just last week, I saw Phil and Ted Vibe Stroller with Doubles Kit for around $500. Their selection changes daily so it's been fun just checking to see what they have online. Here are some things for the kids that you might have never thought to look at Costco for, including the Boon bath set. For $44 you get the frog, the flo, and bath toys, and shipping and handling is included. It is indeed a boon to find such a deal!

Check out some other items that you might have never thought you'd find at Costco.com:

Play kitchens:

Nursery furniture:

Announcements, invitations and thank you cards:

Family ticket pack for Legoland, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, and Disneyland:

Browse around because it's always fun to just look.

LOL! We have the Costco kitchen in pink. My daugher loves it and it is so well made. They give us a discount on our yearly membership sice we're military too.

My boss that I nanny for has every kind of stroller imaginable. She has a bugaboo, maclaren, etc etc etc and the Phil and Ted's is BY FAR my favorite stroller. It's so easy to maneuver and can quickly become a two seater, I love it!

I love a good deal! Over here, most people use Sam's Club, but I went to a Costco once and it seemed really nice.

I adore the red kitchen. Seriously, can I get that in my size? I got the bathtub frog for a babyshower gift 5 years ago (dear Lord my baby is 5) but cute as it was it didn't stay stuck to the wall for anything. Of course it was bought at Target (and you know I'm a Wal-Mart girl) so no surprise the return process cost me an hour of my life I'll never get back. I'm just sayin.

Can't wait to see your whole bathroom remodel - I redecorate vicariously through others.

Blessings,
Carolynn

Holy Cow! Great deal on the car! I love Costco, too, and as a family of 7 we really DO need to buy in bulk!

I worship at the altar of Costco... Half the stuff in my house came from there as well as 90% of the food. This is a great post.

You just made me love Costco even more. I had no idea you could get all that there. It's like having an untapped resource. I wish they would hurry up and build one closer to me.

That play kitchen is the cutest thing I've ever seen!

Thanks for the tip on the rental car! I have to fly and rent a car in November. I will be renewing my membership!

I used to go to Costco - but ended up spending way too much money and some things would be wasted. So we stopped.

But I love your new vanity!

I think you need to get free stuff just for blogging about Costco! You're a great commercial for them. =0)

I love your new bathroom vanity. It's beautiful!

I wanna be little so I can use that play kitchen. Fabulous!! That Phil and Ted's is awfully tempting. I'm over my Chicco.

Awesome! I don't like to shop, and have the same decision making problem as you. I don't have a Cosco membership, but I do have a Sam's Club membership. I'll have to start checking to see if they are 1/2 as cool; so far we've only gone for food and diapers. Nobody has better produce!

You can rent a car from Costco? Have I died and gone to heaven. I have family in San Diego, I'm so going to do that when I go visit. Do you book it online or in person? I'll have to find out.

I always forget about Costco, but I know it is a great place. I also love Target though to, and when I had little babies I had to bust out the calculator to see who had the better per diaper & per wipe price! I know I am crazy, but I thought, hey I've got years of this ahead of me, why not get the best price! Ha ha..

I wish I had one near me. When I moved to RI I went through withdrawls! Oh, and do not buy that Boon Frog thing. It almost cracked my son in the head when it came off of the wall in our tub!

I'm also a huge fan of Costco. I didn't know they had travel deals, though.

My sister just bought her vanity (very similar to yours) at Costco. It looks so nice.

I've found so many great deals there.....plus, since I have lots of small kids, the carts(with two seats) are wonderful, and the tasters are always a hit with my kids.
