A Series of Unfortunate Events

It is unfortunate that my daughter has no patience for car rides. During even a quick drive to the grocery store, she routinely attempts Houdini-like moves to wiggle her way out of her car seat to freedom.

It is unfortunate that when my daughter cries in the car, my son frequently joins in, giving me a “surround sound” like experience while I am driving.

It is unfortunate that as we were pulling out of the parking lot at the grocery store, we happened upon one of Giancarlo’s pre-school teachers, who was driving home in the same direction as us.

It is unfortunate that in an effort to distract my son and silence the crying, I became overly excited and accelerated in order to catch Teacher Rachel’s attention at a point when I should have been yielding and allowing her to merge peacefully onto the freeway.

I should have been looking more closely at this sign.

Instead, I was thinking how fun it would be to pull alongside her car and wave. For a moment, I actually complimented myself on the brilliance of my plan.

It is unfortunate that I am not a better judge of distance. If this were the case, I probably could have avoided cutting off Teacher Rachel at the on-ramp to the freeway.

I think Giancarlo may be too “sick” to make it to pre-school this week.

LOL, That's just too funny! I wouldn't blame you if he was 'sick' this week ;)

OMG I always think about that when I'm driving. I can't believe it was someone you really knew. Yikes ... Hopefully you were just a blur ... LOL

let's just hope that she didn't see you!!for Giancarlos sake!

Stopping by from SITS. Would love to visit San Fransisco sometime. Have a great week!!

Sevi said...

Yeah, he definitely needs to be sick this week. HAHA!

Oh boy *blush*

Deb said...

That is indeed unfortunate.

Re: your comment to my blog. Francesca, you know you would be a series regular, appearing in the pilot episode, "Deb Gets Her First Comments," and moving on to "Deb Gets Ispired." Ashley Judd would be a good choice...

The Blonde Duck said...

LOL! You poor thing. I would have just been like, "I was playing car tag. You're it!"

Embarrassing moments in the car are always the worst. You don't have a chance to explain yourself, and I'm sure you contemplated calling Teacher Rachel to explain yourself, but then you chose not to because you thought you'd look like a bigger idiot. Yeah, I've been there.

Don't worry, though... I think your pride is the bigger victim here instead of G :) Feel better?

If her memory is anything like mine, she'll never remember it even happened!!

oh my! ... kids sure can make a racket in the car. I remember once when mine started getting too far out of control... I was a mean mommy. Instead of quietly ignoring them.. I popped in a Rob Zombie CD and turned the volume on high for about 2 minutes. Completely stunned them. Then I turned it down low without saying a word and pretended everything was normal. They completely forgot what they were upset about and were happy for the rest of the drive :D ... distraction works.. and I'm sure a pre-school teacher would understand your idea (even if it didn't work out) completely!

Jeannie said...

Too funny! You'll have to face her sometime. Bring her chocolate or a flower or something.

BSNC said...

lol thats funny. hopefully she doesn't see you

Sounds like the flu is in order! By then she will have forgotten!

Sorry I'm laughing over here but that is totally something I would do.

Are you ME??? I do this sort of thing pretty much daily.

Thanks for the morning laugh! I needed it!

(My kids are this way in the car too- crazy making!!!)

That's so cute! And I'm sure there was no pressure from the backseat to hurry up and wave at Teacher Rachel. My kids love seeing their teachers in other settings and will do everything they can to get a wave in!

ymK said...

oh my! This one she won't forget. Poor Giancarlo won't be going to school. . .For a week! Okay poor you.

Oh....EEwwww....
I always wondered what it would be like to have a bit of road rage with a known character....
Hope the week gets better!

Heather said...

Maybe she didn't realize it was you? How would you even bring it up without giving yourself away to make sure though? Maybe you should change schools!

Barbaloot said...

It's unfortunate that Teacher Rachel may not realize that you just wanted to say hi cuz she's your son's teacher and he likes her not cuz you're a crazed freeway driver:)

Oh no! I have to tell you that one morning my 6th grade daughter was having a particularly aweful morning so I let her skip school and we went to get her hair cut. As we were leaving we ran into her teacher who happened to be picking up a Jamba Juice for lunch. Oops! Thanks for stopping by today! :0)

It's okay... just go ahead and move up here to Canada like you know you want to do anyway! You most certainly can be my neighbor! And I just enrolled Reagan in a great pre-school that I am sure Giancarlos would love.

I like the Blond Duck's idea ;-)

And he should DEFINITELY be sick this week...

Sheryl said...

Hahaha oh my goodness that was so funny. Love those times when you're desperately trying to impress but you feel like an idiot. LOL

Our little one hates his carseat too and isn't afraid to vocalize his opinion about it. My husband asked me last week (while in the car with Preston crying) "Have you gotten to that point yet where you start to tune out his cries?" I said "Yes, yes I think I have. It doesn't really bother me. Have you?" and he said "No, nooooo not at all."

Counselormama said...

OMG! hate the surround sound crying! That was funny, though. She probably forgot by the time she got home.

Jo said...

You are the best blogger friend. You are totally willing to show your poor decisions just so we can have a laugh on a monday morning. I think I might be switching preschools if I were you! LOL

Anonymous said...

You did not do that! You're just too friendly for your own good.

Just SO said...

Oh my! Maybe she didn't recognize you... one can always hope.

Kimberly said...

That is too funny!!

Becky said...

Yikes!

My boy likes to chime in when his sister is crying, too. Gotta love that car time...

jesse said...

Hahahah! I think we've all been guilty of this before... if she did see you, maybe a basketful of homemade goodies might appease her..?

Sara @ Domestically Challenged said...

Yes, it is unfortunate he will be ill, but, a little time, distance and painting of the car can really help ease the pain.
BTW~ Elijah was AwEsOmE at getting out of his carseat. No matter how many ways you duct taped him down, he got out.
And yes, the more noise Asher makes? Elijah figures he best enter his voice into the equation. You know, to make me got nuts even faster...

LOLOLOL!! That was too funny!!! You cut her off!!

Oh you poor darlin'! My oldest had a serious set of lungs and screamed everytime the car stopped. Try catching a train that takes 15 minutes to pass. She's 15 now and I still try to invent drinks that have vodka in them ;-)

Yup, no words.

On No You Didn't!!!

That sounds like something I would have done. I thought you were going to say that you got into an accident. So glad that didn't happen! My husband once rear ended one of my best friends. Needless to say, it kind of put a damper on that relationship! :0)

I just nominated you to receive a blog award. Check out my latest posting to see what you've earned. This is the first time I've done anything like this, so you should know that I TOTALLY think you ROCK girlfriend!

You're still welcome to move here to get away from his teacher anytime!

oh man - I remember those days - I would start sweating and panic-ing as soon as I knew I had to drive anywhere!!

Helene said...

I could so easily see this happening to me too!! I think having him be out sick the next day is a valid excuse. At least long enough until she forgets the whole thing!

Or you could just blame it on your evil twin....it sometimes works for me.

Lucia said...

Crack me up!! I think we may have been separated at birth somehow. I could see myself doing this, but now I won't, lol!

I have an extra pair of Groucho glasses if you need one.

Oh man! This is hilarious...I do stuff like this all of the time! Oh well, it's the intention that counts, right?

Or maybe a present for his teacher is in order...

Oh man, Francesca! This is so you! Maybe she didn't recognize you. If she says something, just pretend like you have no idea what she's talking about. Make her think "she's" the crazy one.

That is so funny. I am rolling and the tears are falling. Sorry but it is just so funny. I would be out sick also. I am having a round robin on Friday April 10th if you want to come by and share a funny story or something. Have a great night.

Gibby said...

OMG, that is classic! Are you sure she knew it was you? Oops!

Mrsbear said...

Oh no! I suppose cutting her off in a botched hello attempt is much more forgivable than a fender bender near the on-ramp...You might have had to find a new pre-school. The surround sound crying will always scramble your higher reasoning skills.

amy & lisa said...

Oh my ~ funny story but after spending the day with my sister-in-law and 3 little ones, I totally understand the distraction they can be!!

Thanks for your comments on my blog today and for the prayers. Sierra made it through her tests...what a trooper! She does however still have some problems with her bladder and kidney. For now they will continue to watch it and see how it goes.

Tulip Row said...

Oh the genius plans we come up with while trying to appease children in the car! My children are also carphobes and I have tried many things, including nursing while the baby is still in the car seat! I wasn't driving of course, that would really be something! Just hope Rachel did not see you.... maybe.

Holly said...

Hahaha! That's great. Seems like something I would do too!

Kristen said...

lol! I love it. Sadly. I would have done the same thing. I prob also would've said "Do you want Mrs. G to know you are acting up? She's right there...let me catch up to her and tell her."
